Wabi Sabi ceramics by Manuela Metra

Wabi sabi is the zen of things, is a Japanese philosophical aesthetic criterion. And ‘the idea that the spiritual component, aesthetic, philosophical and woven to daily action, in a special object, here, now, feeding and nourishing our day, in a dance. For us who we are descended from ancient Egyptian beauty pattern, almost abstract, from the greek, the right and the beautiful, the Renaissance lowered into the symmetry of reason, and humans at the center of the universe, the concept of wabi sabi is the Copernican revolution aesthetics. wabi sabi means the eternal consciousness flow, the change of every aspect of life, and as a result, the certainty of the uniqueness of each moment. The concept at the base of wabi sabi is based on thousands of years of contemplation Japanese. The beauty is seen as the transformation through countless stages. Beauty is dynamic. It has neither an end nor even un’obbiettivo, simply the beauty is, and it is an absolute changing. Placing the emphasis on impermanence, the knowledge that everything flows, maximum which also belongs to Buddhism, leads to contemplation. Quality of beauty is the Living One, what is alive and becomes intertwined with the daily, in a sweet and melancholy dialogue. The message of wabi sabi is present now as back in the thirteenth century Japan. The aesthetic and philosophical criteria stated allow the wabi sabi to be present and position itself at the turn of philosophy, aesthetics, art, design. But always with a strong link to the object, with the matter. Wabi sabi can cover everything, but especially in the ceramic is best expressed. The difficulty in finding a definition of wabi sabi is entirely in line with its deep meaning, with the mystery that hides the great laws of life, with the wisdom of silence and the courage to leave undeciphered what you can not decipher. The words wabi and sabi were loaded with meaning over time, and love for a certain ambiguity has allowed the Japanese not to give unequivocal definitions. Love for the material, formal purity, imperfection, consciousness of the continuous flow of life, melancholy and joy, all in balance, that perhaps this is what in part is similar to the concept of wabi sabi. In ceramics, wabi sabi is located in warm colors, clean shapes and tactile pleasure of surfaces. The decoration replacing the matter, which speaks for itself, in itself already contains the message, just listen. Will the enamels by binding spontaneously to the surface to create a pattern. Leaving concepts such as symmetry and uniformity are moving towards broader horizons in artistic expression. Unhook the beauty from the idea of perfection, think about what is beautiful as something that contains the transformation, believing something that is nice understated and natural, does so much good for the soul finally start breathing. In the flow of things, in their change is the secret of living beauty. A beauty to be enjoyed, here now, maybe drinking tea in a special cup ……….

P.S: The cup in the East is the artist’s soul, watching it includes people who made them.
