Cherry Pie and the intimacy of daily objects

Cherry Pie

Cherry Pie on wabi sabi ceramic by Manuela Metra

Every object that accompanies us on our journey is full of emotions and memories. I believe that there is a value of intimacy in the object of daily use that goes well beyond its functional nature, to elevate itself to a decidedly intimate and spiritual dimension. In Japan the combination of art-spirit-functionality is well resolved in the tea ceremony. It is natural for me to see and try to find the spiritual in matter and bring it to light in everyday life, it is my work and my vocation. So cooking a Cherry pie becomes a sensory and spiritual experience, cherries are my favorite fruit and they remind me of many things. The slow progress in the kitchen to prepare the brisè pasta is not different from wedging the clay, cooking cherries resembles the creation of a glaze, a color on the canvas, the consistency and density must be perfect. The aromas of cinnamon and spices fill the air. I think of the dish on which  to serve this glorious Cherry pie. I wonder what color will be the most suitable. And I know for sure that what matters is the journey the process, the here and now.
