Urban Potter

Urban Potter, what does this mean? In a broad sense it indicates a new generation that lives in big cities, which embraces a creative work, realized through the hands, very concrete like that of the ceramist. It’s a fashion phenomenon and it arouses a lot of interest. There are many requests that I receive from those who want to learn this ancient art; often it is the desire to try that moves people, sometimes it is an unrealistic project such as that of creating a 12 piece dinner set  in a couple of hours or making it a profession by attending a couple of lessons. Strictly speaking, for me Urban Potter means living in a fruitful way the contrast between the rhythm of the city, the modernity and the undeniable comforts it offers and the slow, meditative and ritual rhythm that the earth imposes. That of the ceramist, is a work that can be experienced in many different ways, is varied. Some ceramists see themselves more as artisans, others as designers, others like me feel artists, create unique pieces. For those who want to get closer to ceramics, I advise you to take a trial lesson, just to understand what it is. The lathe is fascinating, but it takes time to master the technique and the movements, it takes years. The figure of the Potter is ancient, it is also found in mythology, loaded with profound meanings that connect to the origins of creation. As if to indicate that there is something mystical about sitting in front of the wheel, with a piece of clay to create something with your own hands, now as then.
